Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

EPDs are comprehensive report documents that provide you with the results of a life cycle assessment (LCA) for specific products. An EPD provides insights into potential environmental impacts the product may have, which includes the global warming potential of embodied carbons. Steel has always been the leading material for safe, sustainable construction and will continue to be a leader in green buildings.

Green Planet
Our steel building systems adhere to the LEED green building rating system

As of October 30, 2016, the U.S. Green Building Council transitioned from LEED v2009 to LEED v4. According to the USGBC, LEED v4 has been developed to reflect a life-cycle assessment-type approach, which may provide a more comprehensive view regarding the sourcing of materials. Additional information on LEED v4 is available at www.usgbc.org.

New Millennium will continue to provide MR4 Recycled Content and MR5 Regional Materials information for LEED v2009 projects as requested. Recycled content, regional materials and environmental product declaration information can also be provided to accommodate LEED v4 projects.

We continue a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability by primarily using steel sourcing from domestic electric arc furnace mills. Scrap steel is the primary ingredient for EAF mills, or mini-mills, which is why the steel industry is a leader in recycling and sustainability.

LEED Letter provides the current “recycled content” information from each of our facilities. The average breakdown may vary at the time of production depending on coil availability and coil source.

Regional materials

Based on LEED 2009, depending on the jobsite location, New Millennium joists and deck products may be considered regional materials and count toward points under the Materials and Resources Credit 5.

Under MR Credit 5, you can obtain up to 2 points toward LEED certification if using building materials or products that have been extracted, harvested or recovered as well as manufactured within 500 miles of the project for a minimum of 10% (1 point) or 20% (2 points), based on cost, of the total materials value. If only a fraction of a product or material is extracted, harvested or recovered and manufactured locally, then that percentage (by weight) can still contribute to the regional value.

New Millennium can provide job site specific information related to the Regional Materials credit upon request. Please talk to your New Millennium local sales representative or contact the New Millennium LEED specialist.
